Many times, when an unexpected incident happens, our first reaction is, panic. We are uneasy because we did not see it coming and would not have written it in our own story if we had the chance.
This state of panic usually gives way to a flurry of actions, confusion, stress, and worry. We imagine that if we try to do more, we can dig ourselves out of the situation. So, we dig, but the more we dig, the more we find ourselves sinking deeper!
Very often, you cannot imagine how this incident could possibly have a positive outcome, so, you are determined to stamp it out.
Your fear is heightened because you cannot see God in this situation. You are almost positive that He is either not aware or has lost control, so you try even harder to get out. You are armed with this seeming “truth” of how this must have happened without God’s knowledge.
You look up, down, left and right, and it feels like there is no end in sight. You look forward, and you can’t see past what is right in front of you at that very moment. So, you tell yourself it is over. You decide that the best course of action is to give up.
However, what you don’t realise at that moment is that your vision is distorted by the incomplete information you have at your disposal.
You see, God has an entire picture of the what, where, when, and how of your life. You are on a journey, and He is the planner, writer, artist, and director of your story. He is not taken by surprise when you have twists and turns. He is not somewhere shocked at your mistakes – He is, in fact, aware of everything before it happens.
You are focused on the immediate, but God is working with your future in mind, and because you are surrendered to Him, His purpose for you will stand. Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
You might say, but God didn’t show me this was going to happen. Well, maybe if He did show you, you would not have taken the step in the first place, but He needed you to be right where you are now.
The fact that He is leading you does not mean the journey will be without challenges. He has promised you, however, that He will never leave nor forsake you and He will guide you.
So now that He has got you exactly where He needs you to be, would you let Him complete what He has started? Walking in faith and not by sight, knowing that you are in the best hands?
So, dust yourself up, put a smile on your face and start retaking little steps; do you think you made a mistake by moving to a new city because you are yet to find a Job? Have you been trying to leave your job, but nothing seems to be happening? Do you feel like you are just trying to hold your marriage together? Have you lost your job and wondering what to do next? Do you feel like life has continuously been unfair?
Whatever the case is, God needs you to keep moving. If someone asks you what has changed, you can simply tell them that you might not see the full picture, but you know that you are in good hands and you will not fail because God is within you.
You can rest in the arms of the one who is writing your story. God is weaving the intricate parts of your life together; the unexplained situations, the heartache, the complexity, joy, pain, and uncertainty to create a masterpiece. That Masterpiece, my friend, is YOU!
