So I have decided to end my fashion week with a piece on the “Total Woman”; granted that we all want to look good and it is nice for us to do so, it is however also important that we do not let it consume us and we find a right balance, ensuring that we are beautiful women both on the inside and on the outside.

Sarah has spent the whole week looking forward to the women’s conference; she was glad for the opportunity to be in the midst of other women, hoping and yearning that someone might for once see past her pretty face and beautiful clothes; she is hoping someone would look a little deeper, maybe they would catch a glimpse of what she was really going through on the inside.

Over the past few years, Sarah had completely lost her self-worth, she was constantly hurting inside; putting herself down for being a bad parent; feeling like she was not good enough or worthy of anything good. She felt like she had lost it all!

Sarah was unhappy with her situation and relied on clothes and jewellery for her happiness, she spent every penny she got trying to buy her happiness and cover what she was going through with her beautiful outlook. It also didn’t really help that when she got to the conference, the women were not able to see through her disguise; all they saw was the glamorously dressed Sarah. They thought Sarah had everything going good for her simply because she always looked gorgeous; they described her as a Total Woman! They had no idea what she had carried along with her for so many years.

So how do you as a woman define a total woman? Is she defined simply by her outward appearance, beauty and the quality of clothes she wears; is she defined by her stunning looks and elegance?  Or is she defined by both her inner and outer beauty, by the works of her hand, by her fear and love for God, and by her commitment to her family?

Do you take a look at the pretty and beautifully dressed woman sitting next to you and wish you had her life or wish you could swap something in your life with hers?

God created every single woman to be unique and beautiful; what you look like and what you wear does not define who you are; it is only a part of you that people see. Looking good is very important for every woman and every woman should take time out to look beautiful, but we need to come to a realization that we are not what we wear, real confidence comes from knowing who you are in God and exploring that to the fullest. A total woman is;

Totally committed to fulfilling God’s will for life and confident in who she is in God

Outstanding and diligent in her work

Totally committed to her family

Affectionate to the needs of others and hospitable

Loves and fears the Lord

Wears elegant and dignifying clothing

Opens her mouth in wisdom

Manages and keeps her home

Always praise and trustworthy

Noble and virtuous in character

Once you realize that being a total woman is not solely based on your beauty or what you wear, you are on your way to true happiness. You cannot base your happiness on something as temporal as beauty. Beauty is vain but character is a virtue, beauty comes and goes but your character and values live with you always.

There is a need for women to find their confidence in God first before any other thing. That is the solid foundation upon which every other thing can be built.

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised

Your journey to becoming a total woman starts when you begin to accept who you are in Christ and begin to walk in line with God’s will for your life.
